Scale

These are three appropriated images of architectural models of the Modernist housing estate Thamesmead, which was then under construction in South East London. Using a flatbed scanner, I used a ‘scanography’ technique of pulling the image along with the scanner’s sensor. This produces the distinctive wave effect, as well as adding colour to a black and white image. The concept behind this series was to highlight Modernist housing and the squandered potential thereof, the spreading gentrification throughout London, and the tension of archive material being re-presented in an adulterated, contemporary context.
